The Data Center Operations Lead is responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily operations and maintenance activities within the organisation’s data centre facilities. This front-line leadership role ensures adherence to operational procedures, oversees the data centre technician team, and acts as an escalation point for any issues or incidents impacting the data centre infrastructure and environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and lead a team of data centre technicians and vendor staff
  • Coordinate daily operations including monitoring of data centre systems, facilities and environment
  • Identify and respond to system alerts, issues and incidents, escalating to management as needed
  • Administer and oversee service desk operations for data centre-related tickets/requests
  • Liaise with internal teams regarding data centre maintenance, upgrades and support needs
  • Assist with disaster recovery activities, testing and documentation
  • Ensure adherence to operational policies, processes and service level agreements
  • Conduct periodic reviews and report on operational gaps, risks or improvement areas
  • Maintain accurate documentation of data centre facilities, equipment records and procedures
  • Follow and enforce safety and compliance protocols within the data centre
  • Provide training, guidance and oversight to the data centre technician team

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in IT, Computer Science or related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience in data centre operations, facilities monitoring and management
  • 2+ years of experience leading or supervising a technical operations team
  • Solid understanding of data centre infrastructure (HVAC, power, fire suppression, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of monitoring systems, ticketing systems and incident management
  • Familiarity with change management, disaster recovery and compliance practices
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication, documentation and training skills
  • Data centre certification(s) such as CDCP, CDFOM or equivalent preferred

This is a hands-on operations leadership role, ensuring efficient day-to-day activities and uptime within the data centre environment. The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing data centre facilities combined with the ability to lead a team of technicians.
