Summary:
The Data Center Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the organisation’s mission-critical data centre facilities. This includes managing the data centre operations team, ensuring uptime and availability of all data centre systems and infrastructure, and collaborating cross-functionally to support the data centre needs of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead the data centre operations team, including technicians, contractors and vendors
- Plan, direct and coordinate all activities related to operating and maintaining data centres, server rooms and associated infrastructure (power, cooling, fire suppression, etc.)
- Monitor data centre performance, identify issues, and drive incident response/resolution
- Ensure adherence to operational procedures, processes and service level agreements
- Liaise with internal teams and external vendors for preventative maintenance, upgrades and expansions
- Develop and manage operational budgets and forecasts for the data centre facilities
- Establish policies and standards related to data centre operations and maintenance
- Conduct audits and ensure compliance with industry regulations and security protocols
- Implement improvements to increase efficiency, reliability and cost-effectiveness
- Provide training to develop and upskill the operations team
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or related field
- 7-10 years of hands-on data centre operations and infrastructure management experience
- 3-5 years of experience managing and leading a technical operations team
- Expert knowledge of data centre design, operations and infrastructure components
- Proficiency with data centre monitoring, management and ticketing systems
- Strong problem-solving, project management and decision-making abilities
- Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Knowledge of data centre compliance regulations, standards and best practices
- Professional data centre certification(s) preferred (CDCP, CDFOM, etc.)
This is a leadership role overseeing all aspects of highly available and redundant data centre operations. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert with proven experience managing a world-class data centre facility.
