Cyclect Electrical Engineering is proud to announce the successful completion of the Foreign Object Deposit (FOD) Intelligent Detection and Alarm System (FIDAS) project in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Changi Airport Group (CAG). The technology behind the FIDAS system uses a series of specialized video cameras, analytics, and lidar systems, which allow runway sweeper operators to operate at high speeds while detecting FOD on the runway, even in all weather conditions.
The system drastically reduces human error in the detection process, improving operator safety. The single operator no longer needs to simultaneously monitor the screen and drive the vehicle, as the program automatically sends an electronic alert to the control tower and indicates the exact position of the debris on a global-positioning map. This not only increases the efficiency of the process but also eliminates the risk of operator error.
In addition to its advanced detection capabilities, the FIDAS system automatically records all FOD found, providing a comprehensive record of the time and location of each deposit. This information can be used to better assess the situation, enabling cleaning teams to pay particular attention to specific locations and make future cleaning more effective. With this innovative technology, airport operators can now pay more attention to spots that are highly prone to FODs and take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of air travel.
The FIDAS system is mounted on a runway sweeper and has the potential to reduce the operating cost of inspections and sweepers, while improving safety standards at airport runways. This project represents a significant step forward in the effort to make air travel safer and more efficient for passengers and airport operators around the world.
