The growth of the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA), shipbuilding and shiprepair industries in Singapore in the 1950s to 1970s was a major driving force behind the growth of Cyclect, a Singapore-based engineering company. In the 1970s, to support its growth ambitions, Cyclect built a 120,000 sqft facility in Liu Fang Road, which housed its manufacturing, assembly, testing and training facilities. This facility was equipped with the latest technology and had the capability to handle large-scale projects.
At about the same time, Mr. Tan Ai Meng, the founder of Cyclect, renamed and rebranded the company from Cyclect & Electric to Cyclect to reflect its transition to modernity and its focus on providing electrical solutions for the marine and port industry.
The company’s ability to align its resources and activities with the growth of the marine industry in Singapore allowed it to establish a strong foothold in the industry. Cyclect’s expertise in electrical engineering and its ability to provide customized solutions for the marine and port industry made it a key player in the industry.
